When Rated People still makes sense

If you work in a higher-value category and you have a long-standing Rated People account that still produces work, there is no urgent reason to leave. The Houzz Group integration adds optional cross-sell into a contractor management tool that some trades find useful.

When NI Trades is the better fit

The combination of a paid subscription plus per-credit lead spend is the issue, particularly when the lead volume itself has fallen. A trade paying £35 a month plus credits and seeing one or two leads a week is paying real money for diminishing return. NI Trades is a flat fee with no per-credit spend, the cap of three trades per job keeps competition tight, and the NI-only audience means search demand and supply are aligned. Customer support is human, not an AI chat bot.

The bottom line for NI tradespeople

Rated People may still earn its fee for trades in busy higher-value categories on legacy accounts. For an established NI sole trader or small firm starting from scratch in 2026, NI Trades is the cheaper, more predictable, locally-focused option, with no surprise tier jumps.

Frequently asked questions

Is Rated People worth it for NI tradespeople?
The hybrid subscription-plus-credits model and the lead-volume decline reported through 2025 and into 2026 make this a harder yes than it used to be. Some trades still get good work, particularly in higher-value categories, but a material number of sellers report dropping from several leads a day to one or two a week while subscription costs have moved upwards. For most NI sole traders a flat-fee NI-only directory is now the cleaner option.
How much does Rated People cost?
Rated People runs a hybrid model. There is a monthly subscription, reported in 2026 at roughly £30 to £35 + VAT on the entry tier, which includes a small monthly credit allowance. You then spend credits on top to unlock homeowner contact details, with each lead typically costing several credits depending on trade and job size. Some members have reported subscription jumps to over £150/month on higher tiers without prior agreement. Confirm the current quote for your trade and postcodes in writing before you commit.
What is the NI-specific alternative to Rated People?
NI Trades is the Northern Ireland-only directory built for NI tradespeople. Flat monthly fee of £30/month on the Listed plan or £55/month on the Featured plan, no per-credit lead spend, no surprise tier jumps, and a maximum of three tradespeople shown on any one job. A 3-month free trial is available for founding trades.

Pricing and terms on third-party platforms named here change frequently and vary by trade and region. Figures quoted were validated against publicly-reported sources in May 2026. Always confirm current pricing directly with each provider before you commit.
