FOR TRADESPEOPLE · NORTHERN IRELAND

Real jobs. Flat fee.
Direct contact with homeowners.

NI Trades is built for tradespeople in Northern Ireland who are tired of paying per-lead and competing in a crowded queue for every job. Our model is the opposite: a vetted directory, a flat £30 or £55/month subscription paid in advance, no commission, no per-lead charges, and a strict cap of three trades per job. That cap changes the odds, you compete with only two other tradespeople, far fewer than on most other platforms, giving you a realistic hire rate of around 1 in 3. Homeowners then review your profile, browse your previous work photos and reviews, and decide whether to share their contact details with you. You remain in control throughout, and can withdraw your interest in a job at any time.

Your profile is your shop window. The trades who win the most work here aren’t the cheapest or the longest established, they’re the ones who treat their profile like a portfolio and their response time like a discipline. Add fresh photos the moment a job is finished, keep your services list current, write a bio that sounds like you, and reply to every review. Then be active throughout the day on the platform: new jobs hit the cap of three fast, and the trade who responds first with a confident, up-to-date profile is the one who gets the call. The harder you work your profile, the harder it works for you.

Higher hire rate
Three trades per job. Then the homeowner picks one.

Every open job caps at three expressions of interest. Once three trades have responded, the job is closed to new responses. That is a much smaller field than most other platforms put you up against, so your statistical hire rate is around 1-in-3, provided you respond before the cap fills. Sign in daily and the platform pushes the freshest jobs straight to you.

Vetting protects you

A vetted directory protects your reputation

Many directories may list anyone who signs up. NI Trades runs application-stage checks before a listing goes live.

At application stage we ask every applicant to submit identity, public liability insurance certificate, two contactable references and any trade credentials relevant to the work they offer. Insurance and registrations can lapse afterwards, so homeowners are reminded to verify current cover directly before any work begins. If a complaint is reviewed and upheld, it’s logged on the listing. Three upheld complaints and the listing is automatically suspended.

For homeowners, that means trust. For you, it means your verified profile actually stands out, and your subscription pays for the system that keeps that difference real.

Identity check
Photo ID required at application. The person whose name is on the listing is the person who owns the listing.
Insurance certificate
Public liability insurance certificate uploaded and checked at application. Date and insurer recorded; cover can lapse afterwards so homeowners are reminded to confirm directly.
Two contactable references
Phone references taken before approval. Anonymous or unverifiable references are not accepted.
Trade credentials
Where credentials apply (Gas Safe, NICEIC, OFTEC, etc.), they are checked against the public register on the day of application. Status can change, homeowners are pointed at the relevant register before any work begins.
Customer due diligence
Homeowners are reminded that final due diligence, verifying current insurance and credentials with the relevant register, is their responsibility before any work begins.
3-strike auto-suspension
Three substantiated complaints (work quality, missed appointments, mis-billing) and the listing is auto-suspended, keeping standards consistent across the directory.

FAQ

Common questions from tradespeople

How much does NI Trades cost?

Three plans. Starter is free for the first 3 months — public profile, 6 work photos, 5 expressions of interest, and a daily digest of new jobs. Listed is £30/month — 10 photos, categorised portfolio with filter chips, custom cover photo behind your hero, Instagram feed integration (auto-refreshes hourly), unlimited responses, new-job notifications within 5 hours, and the verified badge. Featured is £55/month — everything in Listed plus a premium gold-bordered hero with company logo plaque, a hero video slot, unlimited photos, Featured Projects case studies, a pinned testimonial, the gold featured-member badge across the platform, and instant emails when matching jobs are posted. NI Trades is not currently VAT registered, so the price you see is the price you pay. Cancel any time, no contracts and no per-lead charges.

How does the platform make money? Are there hidden fees?

A flat monthly subscription from active trades. No per-lead fees, no commission on jobs you win, no booking fees, and no charges to homeowners. The whole platform is funded by trade subscriptions which is exactly why we keep the count of trades-per-job capped at 3, you compete with two others, not thirty.

How does the 3-trades-per-job cap work? Why does it matter?

Every open job on NI Trades accepts a maximum of three expressions of interest. Once three trades have responded the job stops accepting new responses. The homeowner then picks one of the three to hire. That is a much smaller field than you tend to see on other platforms, so your statistical hire rate is roughly 1 in 3, provided you respond before the cap fills. That makes daily activity worth a lot more here than on a per-lead site.

How does NI Trades vet tradespeople?

At application stage we check identity (photo ID), public liability insurance certificate, two contactable references, and any trade credentials relevant to the work offered (Gas Safe, NICEIC, OFTEC, etc.). These checks are application-stage only, insurance and registrations can lapse afterwards, so homeowners are reminded to verify current cover and credentials directly with the trade and the relevant register before any work begins. Full process is documented on our How we vet page.

How quickly will I start seeing jobs?

Once your application is approved (typically 1–3 business days from receipt of documents and references), your profile is live and you receive in-platform notifications for jobs in your trade and area as they post. Many trades respond to their first matching job within hours of going live.

Will I have to pay homeowners or use a card-on-file system?

Never. NI Trades is not a payment processor. You agree fees and payment terms directly with the homeowner, written quote, deposit (if any), staged payments. The platform never holds funds, never takes commission and never sees your bank details.

What contact happens between me and the homeowner?

When you express interest in a job, the homeowner sees your profile (business name, area, credentials, reviews, photos). When they hire you, they share their full name, phone and email directly so you can arrange the work.

I am a [trade] in [town], how do I know if there are already others competing?

Use the Coverage Gap Finder on this page. Pick your trade and town from the dropdowns and it shows exactly how many other vetted trades in your category currently serve that town. Zero means you would be the first listed, homeowners posting that trade in that town will see only you. 1–3 means low competition. 4+ means an active market where being fastest to respond matters most.

What happens if I get a bad review?

Verified reviews are tied to real hired jobs and are moderated. If a review is factually incorrect or breaches our review policy you can request a re-review through the admin team. Genuine negative feedback stays public, but it sits alongside every positive review you have collected, and homeowners read patterns not single data points.

Can I pause or cancel my subscription?

Yes, cancel any time from your dashboard. Your profile stops appearing in category and search results immediately. We do not charge a cancellation fee, and your existing reviews remain on the platform. If you come back later you can reactivate without re-applying as long as your insurance and credential documents are still in date.

What areas of NI Trades work in?

We cover all 58 NI towns from Belfast and Bangor to Enniskillen and Strabane, organised into the 11 statutory council districts. When you sign up you pick which councils you cover, your profile only matches jobs in those councils. You can change your coverage at any time from the dashboard.

How do I apply?

Click "Apply to list your business" anywhere on this page or visit /signup/trade. You will be asked for business name, trade, areas served, photo ID, public liability insurance certificate, two referee phone numbers, and any required trade credentials. Most applications are decided within 1–3 business days.
