About NI Trades

The directory built around hiring well in NI.

NI Trades is an online directory and introduction service for homeowners and tradespeople across Northern Ireland. Every trade listed has supplied evidence of identity, public liability insurance, contactable references and any required trade credentials (Gas Safe, NICEIC, OFTEC) at application stage. There’s no membership fee for homeowners, no commission, and no per-lead charge, tradespeople pay a flat monthly subscription which is what funds the platform.

Posting a job is free and takes under two minutes. Up to three matching trades respond and you decide who, if anyone, to hire. Your name, address and phone number stay private until you choose to share them. Once a job is marked complete you can leave a verified review which is tied to that job and published on the trade’s public profile under your first name and last initial only.

Insurance and trade registrations can lapse after the application checks. Always verify current cover and Gas Safe / NICEIC / OFTEC ID directly with the tradesperson and on the relevant public register before any work begins or any money changes hands. NI Trades is an introduction service, we are not party to any contract between you and a tradesperson. The How we vet page sets out exactly what is and isn’t checked, and our homeowner guides walk through verifying credentials, getting written quotes and protecting yourself against rogue trades.

FAQ

Common questions from homeowners

How do I find a trade in Northern Ireland?

Pick a category (e.g. Plumber, Electrician, Roofer), choose your town, and post a free job. Up to three vetted trades will respond. We never share your contact details with interested trades, only you can choose to share them, whenever you decide.

Are tradespeople on NI Trades vetted?

At application stage every tradesperson supplies identity, public liability insurance, references and any required trade credentials (Gas Safe, NICEIC, OFTEC). Insurance and registrations can lapse afterwards, verify current cover directly with the trade and check their Gas Safe / NICEIC ID with the relevant register before any work begins. Final due diligence before hiring is the homeowner’s responsibility, not NI Trades’, we are an introduction service and are not party to any contract you enter into with a tradesperson.

How much does it cost a homeowner to use NI Trades?

Free. Posting a job, browsing trades, sending messages and leaving reviews are all free for homeowners. Tradespeople pay a flat monthly subscription, homeowners are not charged commission, finders' fees or per-lead costs.

How quickly will I hear back from a tradesperson?

Most categories see a first response within hours of posting an open job, typical response times are shown on each category card above. Outside business hours and over weekends responses are slower; emergency callouts (burst pipes, no heat, no power) usually still get same-day replies.

What areas of Northern Ireland do you cover?

Trades operate across all 58 NI towns from Belfast and Bangor to Enniskillen and Strabane, organised into the 11 statutory council districts. Use the map above or the Browse-by-town section to see how many trades are active in your area before you post.

What if a trade does poor work or doesn't turn up?

Report it through the Report Concern button on the trade's profile. Each report is reviewed by our admin team; persistent issues lead to suspension. NI Trades is an introduction service and is not party to your contract with the trade, your own due diligence (written quote, proof of insurance, staged payments) is recommended on every job.

Can I leave a review?

Yes, once a job has been hired and marked complete, you can leave a verified review. Reviews are tied to real jobs so they cannot be faked or bought, and they appear publicly on the trade's profile. Your full name is never displayed; only your first name and last initial.

How do I post a job?

Click “Post a job” in the header or pick a category from the grid above. You'll be asked for a short description, your town, urgency and optional photos. Up to three matching trades can respond, you choose who (if anyone) to hire.
